tough situation
By annie

Clip to ScrapBook
I don't know that I could agree that really did the right thing, although I can't say for sure what the right thing is. I just think about what I always tell my kids.... If you find yourself in the middle of doing the wrong
thing, you can ALWAYS stop right where you are and turn it around. It just sounded kind of like he did come around and realize he should be doing his work, and at that point there was nothing that you would have accepted form him. Believe me, there are times when I purely want my kids to suffer punishment, but sometimes I just have to reign it in.

On the other hand, I can see how

you would not want to let the kid think he could just get away with this behavior. You absolutely don't want to reinforce it. Maybe you could have de-escalted the situation by just allowing him to complete the assignment, and then at the end of class or right before recess, called him back for a "conference" on his free time. But then hindsight is a beautiful thing isn't it?
