Ours is 20 minutes total without snack
By Carolyn

Clip to ScrapBook
I have not taught first grade as a classroom teacher, but I have taught second. Children can actually eat snack while they are doing work; they do this across the grade levels where I work. Snack does not necessarily have
to be a break. It is designed for nourishment or energy boost for the children. Our first grade teachers give the children wiggle time throughout the day. After a certain amount of time, and it appears that the children are "losing it," they have the children stand up and dance to music or jump up and down (jumping jacks) to get the blood flowing again and to alleviate sitting fatigue.
I teach Spanish in grades K-5 right now, and I include movement in each lesson in grades K-2. Try to find ways to incorporate movement into lessons if your principal is going to make your recesses shorter.
