attendance

Clip to ScrapBook
I find attendance a real pain in K since the children don't come in and sit at a desk they sit on the carpet, I tired counting but if somebody is missing I'd ahve to find out who, I tired looking at coathooks, but they don't
have coats all year round, cubbies, but sometimes some don't bring a lunch so I had to think of something new, that didn't involve roll call.

I put each child's name on a card with a magnet on the back, and use a section of my chalkboard which is magnetic and use electrical tape to section it into two colums, at the top I put a question at the first of the year it is "does your name

start with ____ (I put a letter on the blank) then at the top of one colum I put yes and the other I put no (these are the first sight words I teach), the children move there name to the proper colum when they enter in the morning, later in the year I post sentences to read ( I like to run/ skip )- the children are doing a learning activity and one quick look and I can see who is missing.
