tokens

Clip to ScrapBook
Try positive reinforcement (behavior modification) with tokens. You give the children tokens for prescribed behaviors (e.g., sitting quietly and listening, finishing worksheets, etc.). Set a game chart (e.g., "candyland") graphic on the wall for each child or place it in the child's folder. The child advances one square for each token. Each time the child gets to a prescribed spot, a reward is earned. Of course, negative reinforcements need to be used judiciously as well. However, the children will perform better and more cheerfully with positive reinforcement. This also helps build self-esteem and confidence.
