My husband and I moved to a large city last summer and I got a job teaching at an "urban" school. It was the worst choice I have ever made. I had 25 third graders who hit, kicked, bit, scratched, punched, were verbally
aggressive to one another, were below grade level, etc., etc. I went to administration and asked for help. They tried to help, but gave up if something didn't work in 2-3 weeks. Plus, all that the school cared about was test scores. Then I was told that 2 months before the end of the year, another teacher would be taking over my class. So I quit. I'm not there anymore and I'm so much

happier. I hate the fact that they blamed me for how the kids behaved, but I'm sure they'll learn their lesson when they see that this other teacher has no better control over them than I did. It was just a bad mix of kids. I was totally going to hold out til summer, but that didn't happen.

I might teach again next year, at a different school, obviously. But I'm going to be picky about where I end up. If I don't find a job I like, I'll get a job in a different field. We'll see.
