erosion
By Linda

Clip to ScrapBook
Fill several cake pans with sand - one with all of the sand at one end, one with it spread out and a mountain built up in it, and one spread out like a beach. On the two with bare ends, fill with water and have them "slosh" them back and forth showing how the water can wear away a beach or a cliff. On the mountain one, have students pour water over it to see how it erodes away. Another idea is to fill a child's plastic swimming pool with sand, have them build land formations, and then you use a watering can and "rain" on it - can also put a tire pump under one side and have someone unknowingly pump up the pool which causes cracks, some erosion, etc.
