Lit Circle
By jude

Clip to ScrapBook
Have you ever tried any of the Literature Circle worksheets (summarizer, connector, wordfinder, etc.) You can do this in groups as a Lit Circle or just as a class assignment.

We've also read a novel and just discussed the
chapters, vocabulary, etc. Then their assignment was to come up with a project of their own. Some do as little as possible. One of my students made a log cabin for Sign of the Beaver and then he made a sawmill (he had logs(twigs) lumber (popsicle sticks) sawdust, etc.) for Luke Baldwin's Vow. Some have rewritten the ending, made a poster, drawn a picture, made a word search. Some
other suggestions are poetry, movie poster, summary. This is hard for some kids as they don't know what to do, although some do.

Other alternative assignments might be do to a Reader's Theatre project in groups, writing class summaries for each chapter (or in pairs or groups), or dramatization of a scene.

Have fun!
