22 days & counting... By leaving
|
|
I recounted on the calendar today to make sure 22 days was right. It is. After this week I have 2 more weeks of 5 days, and I have 2 weeks of 4 days. Can you tell I'm ready to be done? This was my first year teaching. | I teach in a multiage 3rd and 4th grade classroom. I'm NOT coming back to my current position in the fall. I don't have a job to go to, because I will be moving in the winter, so I can't sign on for another full year contract. My job security is great in my current position, but at this point that doesn't matter. Reasons I'm glad there's only 22 days left... 1) I work with a co-teacher | | who is most times unbearable for me to work with. She treats me like crap, my students like crap, she is demeaning, passive aggressive, and I don't care if I ever see her again beyond this school year. She alone has been reason enough to leave. Other teachers in the building are appalled at how she treats me (they've seen it themselves). 2) I would never work in a classroom with 2 grade levels again. My district doesn't support it, and I'm sick of planning so many lessons for both grades. The co-teacher is supposed to help, but she is really lazy. 3) I have deaf and HH kids in my class (the reason for having a co-teacher, she is the one with a special license, not me.) She does absolutely no modifying or support for them. I feel like I'm carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders in the classroom. She is doing these kids a HUGE DISSERVICE. 4) I have so many paras, interpreters, OT, PT, speech people in and out of my classroom. There's never a quiet moment. I know they're here to help, but sometimes it gets to be too many!Reasons I love my job... 1) My students are a really nice group of kids. I have very minimal behavior problems. 2) They are respectful to each other and others. 3) They are very sweet. 4) I will miss them, but it's not enough to stay. My fiance and I will be moving from the area I live in by November, so I'm not signing on for another school year anyways. I'm scared to be without a job, and the prospect of subbing for a few months makes me groan, but I subbed for a couple months before so I can do it again!
