cubes and blocks
By ALI

Clip to ScrapBook
My district does a lot with base ten blocks. We also use interlocking cubes for basic addition and subtraction problems.

We are told not to teach our students touch points. They become too dependent on it. It only works for basic addition and subtraction. It won't work when they get into more difficult problems, especially if it's the only method they know and rely on. One special ed. student in my class used touch points, which worked for ex-1+4=5, but when he got into more difficult problems he was lost. It was the only method he had used. I had a difficult time getting him to try and use different methods.
