two a year
By Cheryl

Clip to ScrapBook
My class does two a year. At Thanksgiving they write a 5-paragraph (or more) essay on any topic related to Thanksgiving. In the spring, we just started our habitat project. Groups of six students research a habitat of
their choice (desert, rainforest, lakes, ocean ...)and they make a large mural. The pictures they draw must be accompanied by a caption with three facts. At the end of several weeks their group presents the project to the rest of the class. These projects take on a life of their own and they are always extraordinarily productive. I think a major part of the success is to have many, many
copies of non-fiction books related to the topic. I simply borrow from the library. The kids have always loved these projects and their parents do too since it's all done in school.
