less reading

Clip to ScrapBook
I think one influencing factor is that children do not read at home as often as we did as kids. Many children in my class do not get bedtime stories, instead, they have vcr's and tv's or x-boxes in their bedrooms. They may not see their parents reading, nor do they have as many books available to them. I am speaking of my current class, I know not all homes are like this. I do think it happens more and more though. I've also noticed that their make-believe stories reflect video games. They don't read if I don't assign a book for homework. I teach first grade.
