Re: Topics for Personal Narrative" sheet
By mlg

Clip to ScrapBook
Lisa, how did you structure the sheet that you sent home with the students? Did it just ask for a list of adventures, new experiences, or interesting situations, or did you give more information regarding how to approach
the brainstorming task? It seems that some of my kids (actually closer to 2/3 of the class) sit there with a glazed look on their faces as if I am speaking in Swahili to them when I ask them to make connections to something in their own lives that they can relate to when we are reading. Obviously, I believe that it will be far easier for them to write a personal narrative about a self-generated
topic than one I arbitrarily assign to them. What becomes a problem, however, is getting them to actually think about and write on topics on their own initiative.
