who pays for this trip? sounds very expensive! my students/PTO couldn't pay for 1/100 of this trip. we have an end of year field trip--we walk to a park a mile away--parents are in charge of about 8 stations--math, science,
art, communication, physical activity, skits, lip sync, social studies. (our 3 teachers have set up the activities and the parents run them--while we run around making sure everyone is behaving and see if anyone needs supplies or medical attention....) we have lunch there, share our skits and lip syncs and walk back to school just in time to leave at dismissal.

we request (and

receive) $200 every year from our PTO--that money covers what we need for our moving up ceremony--mostly the cake, paper goods, and punch--and supplies for our field trip. other costs: chemicals, art supplies (we try to use school supplies if at all possible), awards for students, some decorations.....

change is hard for kids when they have a tradition set forth and they're looking for it, so the first year of change is always hard--if you see yourself there for some time and others agree with you, be set for resistance at first, but you need to get your field trip to a managable place that you can live with for the next several years!
