buddies
By AnneCT

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi Liz,
I have 5th grade buddies. We meet at holiday times and for reading. The kids really like having a buddy for the year, but we make it clear that everyone in the class is your buddy. You can ask them for help in
the bus room or at morning recess.

We make and decorate two headed monsters for Halloween/edible trees in Dec./buddy recess with popsicles in the spring/100 reasons to have buddies on the 100th day (buddies write, 1st graders dictate)/We make posters for them for big events like town track meets/Buddy read any time. I let the fifth grade teacher send his troublemakers or do gooders at

any time. They come and listen to my kids read (about 5 mins/student). I give them a crash course in being a good helper first up in their classroom so they know what is expected if they get the privilege of coming to mine. It has worked well for me. We've even done joint bulletin boards. Half hang in my hall, half upstairs!Good luck!
~Anne
