checkbooks

My kids made checkbooks at the beginning of the year. I made some checkbook registers and found a website where you put their name and school address on a check template and print it out. The kids are given a monthly "paycheck" and have to pay desk rental and chair rental right off the bat. They can "deposit" money in their checking account for desired, responsible behaviors and can "debit" money for behavior, etc.. They balance their checkbooks once a month(a great math activity) and then "spend" their money on an agreed menu of choices. One of their favorite activities that they spend money on is helping the media specialist shelve books and helping the PE coaches keep the equipment room organized. We love it!
