Mostly agree

Clip to ScrapBook
I definitely agree that student teachers should not expect to be paid. It is a part of your training and it goes without compensation. I know many student teachers in my building this year complained about it and every
teachers' reaction was the same...you don't get paid and you just deal with it for a semester.

As for working during student teaching...I did and most people at my college also did. I am not talking full-time jobs, but many worked during the weekend and some week nights. It is important to remember to keep college a priority since that should definitely be your first concern. I also

don't believe that it is the non-traditional students who always have this attitude. Most student teachers I have met this year with this attitude were young and felt that their work should be compensated. I have only been teaching a few years so it wasn't all that long ago that I was in your situation. I remember how much work I had to put in, but it is definitely worth it in the end.

I wouldn't be offended if people assume you are rich because you don't have to work. They probably can't believe it because times are tough and not many can go without a paycheck for so long. Worry about yourself and be glad that you are one of the lucky ones who does not have to work.
