Can you call or go into that district with a new copy of your personal statement? Maybe you can explain to them what happened. I would maybe try to do that; maybe it's possible to give them the copy you saved before it gets sent out to whoever does the hiring.

I know in my district they toss away anything that has mistakes in it. Which means they wouldn't look at that person to possibly hire them. It might be better to go over there (even if it's a bit embarrassing or uncomfortable) rather than just leave it and worry.

I can't offer much more than that, but that's what I would probably try to do.
