i do this when each of my students reach 100 AR points--they get to pick a theme for a day and i try to format everything we do around that theme: western, hawaiian, pajama, backwards day, sunglasses, harry potter, football...

for example, once we had a "food" day and kids brought in food to share, we did a math activity with candy, and for reading, we followed recipe directions.

so we do math, reading, writing activities involving whatever theme the kid picked

you could have your class brainstorm and then vote on the theme
