Retiring By Debby

Congratulations! I am also retiring after 34 years of teaching and my emotions have gone between ups and downs. I am leaving a profession I truly love and will miss. It is hard to think about where my life will go because| being around the children ( Grade 3) helps me feel young. But The pace is so different now than when I started and I have an extremely hectic class for my last year. It is so hectic than any supply teachers who come in refuse to come back due to my saucy children. This year with the class stess and 18 out of 26 who couldn't read when we started but better now even though I had no support |
| from administration, 1 deaf child who screamed a lot, my husband retiring as well, having some health issues, a flood to deal with and also we are in a contract year so right now we have withdrawn voluntary services which means the kids play outside for 80 minutes and then come in to work - which they don't want to do! So my thoughts are - you have to laugh about it or go crazy so everyday I look for the positives and tell my class they're special to me, even my 1 boy who tries to push me so he can get negative feedback from me. I just tell him I like him and he is smart but he can't cope with praise so he acts out big time. What a way to end a teaching career but I know in a year, maybe less, I will look back with great memories no matter what happened in my life.
