I agree, but I don't care

Hi,

I think most "Teacher of the Year" awards are so non productive. Despite all the congratulations and smiles, most of the peers go back to their rooms with varying degrees of bitterness. The parents in the school
seem to think that the award really shows who is the best teacher and then the campaign is on to get your kid in the magical classroom. Typically, these teachers get the "movers and shakers" in the building who are 75% controlling parents who make life miserable with OVER involvement. So, in the end, the awardees may get a few more gifts, but have a few years of lots of stress after the
award.

I few almost all awards as worthless. Politicians and people who seek them for career advancement may need them but they don't belong in education. Let's give a big award to that kindergarten teacher in Florida who had that out of control child who was videotaped.

Teachers secretly want to establish a "parent of the year" award each year in the building. If your kid shows up with their homework and lunch and isn't tardy, if they make a year's progress every year and are always compliant, alert, attentive and kind, you may get the "parent of the year" award!
Like that will happen!
Connie
