some ideas By tia

here are a few things that you could try to save your sanity (and your students'!)this child is in desperate need of attention! give her some...pull her aside and tell her that you have a really important job that you | need done (one that can be done daily and really does have a purpose) and that you think she would be perfect for the job. (some job ideas: date on board writer--this would never get done in my room if a kid didn't do it!; extra copy notebook manager; pledge reminder; plant caretaker; librarian...) this may help her feel needed and take some ownership in the classroom and feel some self-worth. you | | could also talk with her about your concerns in that you aren't able to do your job, others are being kept from learning, and she isn't able to learn all that she needs to. set up a behavior management program where she earns (a sticker?) for each subject that she is not a disruption. when she earns 5=prize, then wean her to 8, 12,...well, there might not be that many days left of school! you get the idea--and get her involved with picking out the prize--lunch in classroom with friend; free book from next book order; sit by friend; 5 extra minutes of recess...if going the positive route doesn't work and you just need to get her out of your room, find some other teachers who would be willing to take her--it would be nice if you could find 5--one for each day of the week (or at the least, 2--one for AM and one for PM)--and as soon as she's a disruption, she gets sent there, with work. i always make a big deal out of students who have to leave my room. "You don't get to be in here with us if you're acting that way." Like it's so cool if you're in the room--you miss out when you're not here--oh well. good luck! hopefully you don't have much time to endure her--but also think, you don't have much time to have an impact on her--i'll bet she's driven all her other teachers crazy. maybe you can give her a glimmer of hope before she moves on.
