scheduling surgery
By Same boat

Clip to ScrapBook
I've been in that situation several times, most recently last year and the year before. I knew that my recovery time would be rather lengthy and I wanted to be sure I would be ready to hit the ground running in September.
Two years ago we were out of school on June 19th and I scheduled surgery for June 20th. Last year we were not due to get out until June 24th, so I arranged to leave a week early in order to be back at the opening of school. We went back before Labor Day this year. I had mixed feelings about needing a sub for the last week of school, but I knew that I could not have the necessary recovery
time otherwise. Besides, it's a lot better to be gone at the end of the year than at the beginning.

A few years ago, I had knee surgery three weeks after school got out and I was going to be needing to interview and attend workshops over the summer. That was very difficult to do because I was on crutches or a cane for most of the summer and moving around was not easily accomplished.

Good luck with your decision. Do whatever is the best for you in terms of healing.
