no choice By ALI

Typically teachers are not given the option to chose a grade level. With the profession being pretty competitive not, most teachers take a job they can get. When I was applying for jobs I applied for everything k-5th grade, | but I knew I wanted to teach 3rd, 4th, or 5th grades. I would've taught primary grades if I had been hired for one. I interviewed for a K position, but I didn't get the job because the principal didn't think K was a good fit for me (all my experience was in 3rd and 5th grades). She did call me back a couple weeks later when a 3rd grade position opened. I couldn't agree with her more! I |
| like intermediate elementary grades because they are a bit more independent. I enjoy teaching them what they are expected to learn in math, reading, and writing during those years. I would prefer (no offense to primary teachers!) to read and discuss chapter books than read books with few words on each page. I enjoy the discussions and comprehension piece in the intermediate grades. Math is a lot of fun too. It really makes me think too. Like I said they are more independent (and developing those pre-teen attitudes in 5th grade), but they are still kids! So, generally I would say teachers don't get to pick which grade they would like to teach.
