In every school I have been in the nurse has been able to listen for breathing problems. I would immediately send the child to the school nurse and then he/she would be able to assist you with parent phone calls. I had a parent come to me to let me know that her daughter needed to use her inhaler before PE because our PE teacher would not let them leave for their inhalers. I think that is just awful. However, I saw it first hand. I had a student that had been very sick and she didn't want to go to PE and run. I asked if it would help if I took her to use her inhaler. So I told the PE teacher I was taking her and he gave me a look like I was crazy. I felt I had to justify myself and said she had been sick and he said "oh okay if she has been sick." I have two students with inhalers and they are not students that would use it as an excuse not to go to PE.
