A noun is the name of anything; as school, a garden, hoop or swing A verb tells something being done; to laugh, sing, play, hop, jump or run An adjective tells the kind of noun; as great, small, pretty, white, or brown How things are done the adverbs tell; as slowly, quickly, ill or well Conjunctions join the words together; as men and women, wind and weather Prepositions stand before a noun; as in or through a door An interjection shows surprise; as Oh! How pretty. Ah! How wise. The whole are called the parts of speech. Which reading, writing, speaking teach. I learned this in about 1990! Still remember it. Was very helpful in high school when I had to diagram all those sentences!
