I vote for the word processor. It's a far more real-world skill. It's more important to be able to keyboard than write legibly. I know, I know, I hear you already out there, but I believe this. Teach him to keyboard, lay off about the handwriting. I really do think that if he was able to do this, he would. I doubt if he likes to be scolded by the sub (who needs to quit it). It sounds as if this has been an issue for a while, and so far, the handwriting police aren't winning the war. And they're probably not going to. This is the 21st century. We have technology to make this a non-problem.
