Everyone deserves recognition for hard work By Inequity hurts sometimes

I am so appreciative of the hard work our office staff does! I feel that so many people are undervalued in schools. I agree with many that the least-appreciated group often seems to be the teachers. I think that because| the teachers usually outnumber other departments that the expense or effort involved to recognize our efforts is overlooked. It is much more financially feasible to buy nice gifts for two than for seventy, so you're not likely to be recognized at a level you deserve. Imagine if every teacher received the floral arrangements the secretaries are given! As I've stated, our secretaries | | are awesome, but it does kind of rankle to see how the administrators shower them for their hard work with barely a nod to us sometimes. Our custodial team, also wonderful and grossly underpaid, receives free meals in the cafeteria every day, yet teachers may not even charge a meal to their accounts (students can) and have to pay 10 cents for a cup of ice! Do I begrudge them their meals? No, but I do get the message that in some way my contributions may not be as valued. I'd like to believe that in smaller schools with fewer teachers that the teachers are shown more appreciation.
