Classroom management

Clip to ScrapBook
Usually for Elementary I'll try a couple of things.

1. I'll copy the seating chart and put +'s or -'s by their names throughout the day and tell them this is the paper I'm going to give to the teacher about their day.
I especially like this because then it also shows the students who were great! I'll let the students see it and sometimes during lunch I'll write what I have on the board.

2. I'll tell them at the end of the day that those who were following directions and on task will be able to play a game at the end of the day (if the lesson plans allows some free time). I'll usually use my +'s

and -'s chart. Those who earned a -'s will have to read or do work for a certain amount of time while others play the game. (depending on how many -'s they received). Games I usually do are "I spy" naming animals using each letter of the alphabet.

3. Have the students behaving well write their names on a piece of paper and tell the whole class what I'm doing. Then I tell the students having a hard time I will be writing their names on another sheet of paper to tell the teacher about their behavior.

I have yet to find some incentive to use for High School and Junior High students, it tends to be more lecturing and being firm with them. Any advice on that would be great.
