I'm really sorry I haven't been in touch. My computer hasn't been working and I just got back in here. Anyway, they color the puzzle all at one time and all of the pieces. No designs really, but some of the kids do make patterns as they draw. Some have made stripes or dots, too. They glue those pieces all the way around the picture frame. I hope this helps!
