Interview ?? By Alicia

Hi, You may want to check out the job search board too. Questions and responses pertaining to interviews are on that board. For your first question I might respond with: -The district's curriculum-Districts purchase | and teachers are required to follow certain curriculums. That guides a lot of what we teach. -The State's Standards-There are standards set by each state that we are required to teach and students are supposed to learn. Be familiar with the state standards (or be able to access them) to find out what your state's standards are. -Students' Interest-Whenever possible incorporate your | | students' interests. For example, a few students in one of my guided reading groups liked to read and learn about the weather, so a few times I've chosen books about hurricanes, tornadoes, etc. It gets them excited to read and learn!-Experiences that they have not or will not have. For example, I went to France last month. I brought back a children's story written in French, money, French cookies, French lollipops that kids in France like, postcards, and picture/tourist books. My students LOVED it! I brought in experiences that they haven't had before. For your second question...hmmm... -I would probably find out what they think is irrelevant and why. -Try to explain why you are teaching it-Is it a requirement from your district? Grade level? State? If they don't accept that, they may want to speak to the principal. As teachers we are required to teach certain things that are beyond our control. -Make sure you have a purpose for what you are teaching-Why am I teaching this? What do I expect my students to learn? For your third question... -You could give each student an interest survey at the beginning of the year. -Your observations-I've learned a lot from my students by observing and interacting with them. As teachers we spend all day five days a week with them. -Varying your teaching style. Your students can research something and be given choices on how to demonstrate their learning. One student may want to write a report (if writing is a strength), make a portfolio (that's creative), another may want to make a poster (maybe they like to draw), some may make up a song, or a skit, or a dance. This is another great way for their strengths to show. I hope this helps! Good luck!
