similar experience By ALI

I had a similar experience this year with approaching a VERY sensitive parent about her child. Before I talked to the mother, I talked to our school's special education teacher. I wanted to be careful not to say anything| I wasn't supposed to say. We're not doctors, and I don't think we can say, "I think your child may have..." I explained to this mother what I saw in the classroom-gave her the straight facts about her daughter's behaviors and inability to focus. I also talked to the school psychologist to find out how I should approach this parent. He has had the experience of approaching and working with | | many parents, so I felt he would be a good person to talk to.I would try to talk to someone who has been in this situation before. Find out what you can and can't say. You don't want any of your words to come back and "haunt" you later on. On the other hand, if you feel it's a real issue for this child, you definitely have to do something. That's how I felt about my student. It wasn't a real shock to her parents anyway. They had suspected something for quite some time.
