late teachers
By Ali

Clip to ScrapBook
I had a similar problem at my school. The other grade level teachers were always at least 10-15 minutes late going outside for recess with their students. This didn't bother me on days I have recess duty, because I bring
my class out immediately. On the days I don't have duty I end up standing around in my classroom for 15 minutes with my students waiting to usher them out the door. 15 minutes is a lot of wasted time! I knew that these other teachers were trying to quickly get something in between lunch and recess.

I finally e-mailed them and asked them what their scheduled time to be outside was. I also

asked them if they could do whatever it was they were doing after recess instead. I also explained that my kids go to specials shortly after they come in for recess, so they have to come in on time (going out late meant staying out later). Not to mention they were cutting into my prep time!

It was better that I just talked to them about it instead of dropping hints or leaving it be. They have made an effort to go outside on time and they do. I think it just needed to be brought to their attention so they would realize it.

Maybe you should talk to your co-worker too. She may not realize how much she is inconveniencing you.
