I was in a district that allowed parent requests (when I was a parent) and the classrooms were so lopsided it was ridiculous. If you were a first year teacher, you would end up with a horrible class because all the involved,
caring parents would request a teacher they knew. I'm glad I wasn't teaching in that school! Now I'm teaching in a district that doesn't allow it. It's so much better. I only think they should make special requests to the principal in writing if there is a specific reason that validates it (your child has a special medical condition that the teacher is familiar with, etc...).

Plus,

you wonder how the "other" teachers feel when they're not chosen by parents - sure it might make them look at their teaching, but it also has to make it more difficult to get along with their colleagues knowing the parents think they're bad teachers.
