guided reading

I used to do centers during guided reading but it depends on the class--this year they are too chatty so everyone reads and I reserve centers for writer's workshop so I can meet with small groups to edit and I can monitor a little better. I give students reading during GR (not with me) questions about their book they have to answer in a special notebook; one group each day writes an interactive journal to me during this time (only 5 a day for me makes it more manageable to reply)! Hope this makes sense.
