Kindergarten

Wow. I recently posted on another board and asked if K was mandatory. In my state (MI) it is not and in my district many parents are aware of this, take "advantage" and keep their children home!!! At age 6, the students are placed in grade 1 whether they have attended kindergarten or not!!! Readiness skills??? I am just in shock that with all the rigorous demands of NCLB and our state curriculum that kindergarten is NOT mandatory! So, it is just interesting to hear about kindergarten screenings! (I understand the purpose, but am shocked at the contrast and variations among states and districts)
