Do you have any reward system in your class? Either individual or whole class? Since these are fifth graders, rewards you would use for the younger students might not work, but things like food, or even homework passes will. From what I understand, it seems like your parents are not very helpful either. I am sorry to hear that. It is always good to have great family/parental support in the education of their child. Also, you might even have to go back to square one. Teach homework procedures, responsibility, how to behave in other classes, etc.
