lexile
By Mary

Clip to ScrapBook
Be careful with lexiles. Sometimes they're way off base. They use sentence length and vocabulary to level their texts, but they don't take complicated stuff like metaphor and theme into consideration, which is why they'll tell you that A Wrinkle in Time is appropriate for a grade level fifth grader, which it most certainly is not. That book is HARD. I use it with my GT sixth graders, and it's hard for some of them, and they're reading above grade level. Subject matter is important, too.
