I live in California. Out here we do have a program called APL (or something like that - it's pronounced apple). Anyway, if you become a science, math, special ed teacher, or work as an elementary teacher for a title 1 school(which is one that is underperforming), you can qualify for up to $19,000 of your school loans to be forgiven if you work for four years. So check with the districts and colleges in your area for information on what programs are offered.
