7 Keys
By Cheryl

Clip to ScrapBook
I'm forever looking for ways to help my low readers comprehend better. A 5th grade teacher endorsed journals using strategies from 7 Keys to Reading Comprehension. I've been writing back (again this is my lowest group of
readers,) encouraging them to tell me how they think as they read--mind pictures, making connections, asking questions. This has been a battle although I've just started in the past week. The first chapter of 7 keys says these "low" readers don't see pictures in their minds, and that's why their comprehension is so poor. I'm going to keep at it and meet with the 5th grade teacher to
see how I can improve. I think I'll start this journaling with my kids right from September next year. I'm very hopeful that writing in the journal will promote thinking and comprehension. Good luck.
