on level

Clip to ScrapBook
Last year I made the switch from 5th to 3rd and had the same questions about expectations that you are having. I actually had the other 3rd grade teachers tell me that I was requiring too much of my kids by having them write
at least 8 sentences in their journal every morning and some of the requirements that I had on projects within the classroom. However, in March, my 3rd graders were writing entire pages in their journal and then some. I teach the Language Arts block for 2 classes. I have found that all but 2 of my kids are on grade level or above it in reading. Regarding multiplication, our state
standards only have 3rd graders responsible for 0, 2, 3, 5, and 9 facts. They are struggling because most of them were not given enough time to master the facts. They began this in January and touched on division facts. This week they are going back to multiplication and moving into 2 digit by 1 digit. Keep your expectations high. I agree with the previous poster, they will rise to the occasion.
