AR points in grades
By Deb

Clip to ScrapBook
We came up with a new policy that has been hugely successful this year. We made AR points a separate category in their grades and it is worth 5%. They are assigned to earn 6 points. I understand that some teachers adjust
that for different reading levels, but I didn't. My logic is, lower readers should spend more time on task to try to get their reading levels up to grade level, so they may have to spend more time reading, but that's a good thing. 6 points each marking period is worth a 100. However, the part the kids like is that they can earn up to 12, for which I record a 200 - does great things
to their averages and is such a motivator. Over 12 points, they earn raffle tickets and I draw from each class and give gift certificates for free books from the book club. I have kids earning 30-50 points each marking period. It's crazy, but I love it.
