At the beginning of the year each of my students is to bring in 2 boxes of pencils and a container of red pens for grading. I collect all pencils and pens. Each day they are to have 2 pencils sharpened and ready to go. If they are in need of pencils or red pens then they can go to a container in the back of the room and get whatever is needed. If they have to sharpen pencils during the day or have less than 2 ready to go they owe me a ticket (this rarely happens). I haven't had a problem and we have plenty of pencils and pens to get us through the rest of the year.
