- If you are teaching yards, you could have the students take yard sticks out to a football field to measure the field. This activity would be motivating to the students and it would be an easy way for the students to remember and understand yards. - Teach them how to measure edge to edge. You could have the students measure something using string. Then, you could have them measure the string, making sure that they hold the string straight along the edge of the ruler. Hope this helps.
