This isn't a picture book, but my 5th graders loved it! It's the chicken Soup for the Preteen Soul. I'd read one story and we'd talk about it (time permitting). They looked forward to those every day.

Another I read was Chrysanthemum - which IS a picture book. It's a story about a mouse whose name is made fun of. It led into a great discussion about not making fun of others (which is common among that age, as you know).

At the end of the year, I read the Dr. Seuss book called Oh the Places You'll Go because they were going to be gone from the elem. school and into the middle school.
