styrofoam printing idea
By jensd

Clip to ScrapBook
A fun and cheap project is to make printing blocks out of styrofoam and using crayola washable markers. The lesson I use with this is the students create two designs (one is an organic, free form design and the other is
mechanical/goemetrical design). Next, they transfer the designs to two separate pieces of styrofoam (we work with squares that are about 3x3 inches)and color one design plate with cool colors and one with warm colors. In order for the markers to transfer to the paper you will need to moisten the paper slightly and press the styrofoam down gently. Then they do a final print where they
overlap the designs by laying one over the other within a short time frame so the paper does not dry. I have found that putting the cool color plate down first works best. The seventh grade kids I do it with really enjoy it and I have had several special ed students who were quite successful also.
