Some ideas... By K

1. I second the above poster about which papers to take up and which to send home. I know it isn't a big deal, but it would be nice to know.2. Without violating privacy, let the sub know if there is a/are some special-needs | students in your room without aides. I've had experiences with this where I just wished I'd known to give the student a little extra help, that he/she didin't have to take the whole test, etc. I know there is a big deal privacy issue, but it's got to be humiliating to the special needs student when other kids in the class shout out to the sub that "So-and-so doesn't have to do | | all the questions" or "She need extra special help." I know the kids mean well, but it would be nicer to know ahead of time.3. If there are students who don't need to sit near each other on the carpet, at lunch, or where ever...that would be nice to know too. I want to say that on the most part, I've had EXTREMELY positive experiences subbing. I am certified, so I usually don't have a problem with vague plans or extra time. I actually like being able to improvise, because it helps me learn more about being a great teacher! Also, some type of feedback would be nice to have.
