I agree with the original poster. For some reason, I hate it when students ask me if they can call me Miss S. Maybe it's my own deep-down insecurities or something, but for some reason I find it offensive. I always tell them, with disgust, that it's not hard to pronounce. Partially, it seems to me that it's just laziness. But, my last name is only one syllable! I think I just feel disrespected...as if they don't care to even try to remember my name.
