difficult student
By Randy Rodriguez

Clip to ScrapBook

I have a very difficult student too. He is
legendary throughout the school. His mom is a single parent and cannot control him either. Since I have such a challenging class in general,
I came up with a plan
that has been working for
me. I put a price tag on every single 3rd grade
field trip. For good conduct I pass out fake money. The kids also get money for finishing
their homework, turning in reading logs, etc.(I also take away money for not following classroom and school rules). Once a week I have a bank time when the kids turn in their money for bigger bills and practice making
change. It has worked for everyone. Even my most challenging student. I pay the kids sitting around him for telling me if he bothersanyone while they are working. He now knows that there other eyes on him besides mine. So him and the other discipline problems have been side-lined for the time being and are
finishing their work. Its is used as a positive reward and a consequence for bad behavior.
