Read The Cay. I have forgotten the author, but it is a wonderful story of a boy who blinded during a shipwreck and the black man who cares for him as they learn to live on deserted island. The story takes place at the beginning of WWII. This book teaches compassion and acceptance in a way that is hard to match. You will cry near the end of the book.
