I think I got this idea from this board. What I do is have several class lists available. On the top of the list I have:
assignment
subject
due date
Those are followed by a list of my students' names. Now when assignments are turned in (I collect them at the beginning of every class), I simply highlight the names of the students not turning in their assignments. I am able to hang these lists on the board, but I prefer to simply paper clip them to the stack of papers.
